Happy Valentine's Day

Many believe Valentine's Day was created by greetings card companies just to sell cards and candies. There are more historical theories to the start of this holiday of love, however.

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed "From your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today.

That is pretty romantic!

I have heard seasoned couples say that Valentine's Day is for amateurs, and they no longer celebrate. I still love the holiday though, and why not have a day set aside to remind each other that you are still in love? I would love to hear how you feel about V-day.  Do you celebrate it?

This is what my Valentine left for me this morning. :)

  3. Love that - you and Mike are so cute! We celebrate it too - last night we did dinner and came home to watch tv with glasses of wine. Pretty typical for us - but he's still my valentine :)

  4. With 3 kids 7 and under, we opted for a McAlister's Deli Valentine Dinner. Hey ... kids eat free on Tuesdays ... and that, in and of itself, is pretty romantic! ;-)

My husband sent roses and brought home a bottle of my favorite wine. It was perfect! I have to say, though, that men have it a bit easier than women when it comes to anniversaries/Valentine's Day. They can do flowers or chocolates year after year and we love those gifts! I asked my husband what his version was of flowers and he said that he'd love for me to pick up his favorite specialty beer. So that is what I did this year. Sounds pretty sad, but by the time you lug 3 young kids to the store to get it - it's probably as much effort as ordering flowers, right? Or is that me trying to rationalize? Yes, I felt guilty ... still do.
